TourismMelaka/ About
An independent guide

Written in Melaka.
For people who eat slowly.

TourismMelaka.com has been writing about this city since 2012. We are an independent editorial guide with no affiliation with Tourism Malaysia or any state tourism authority, run by a small local team based in the heritage core.

What we are

Three commitments.

01

Independent

We choose what we cover. Some booking links earn us a commission, which helps fund independent editorial. Affiliate relationships don't influence what gets a recommendation.

02

Local

Our recommendations come from local knowledge and direct experience, not press releases or PR handouts. Most of us were born here. The rest stayed.

03

Honest

We say when something isn't worth your time. We tell you which months are too hot. We update when prices change or restaurants close. We turn down more listings than we accept.

The story

How a side project
became this site.

TourismMelaka.com started in 2012 out of a long-standing frustration that the existing English-language coverage of Melaka was either thin (top-10 listicles) or stiffly official (the tourism board's PDFs). The Dutch Square deserved better. So did Jonker. So did the cendol at Jonker 88.

Over time the site grew a small editorial team with a clear mission: be the resource we wished existed when we first started recommending Melaka to friends.

We're now indexed by the major travel platforms, work with Klook, Agoda, EasyBook and several other partners on an affiliate basis. Most of our readers are KL weekenders. Some are visiting from further afield. All of them, hopefully, eating better and walking less aimlessly than they would have otherwise.

The best way to know a place is to spend enough time being lost in it. We've done the being-lost part for you.

How we work.

  1. We draw on local knowledge and direct experience.

No copy-paste from PR releases. No recommendations based on someone else's press trip.

  2. We mark our affiliates.

Klook, Agoda, Booking, EasyBook, BusOnlineTicket. Wherever we earn a commission, the link is clearly marked and the disclosure runs in every footer.

  3. We don't promise what we can't deliver.

We don't fake star ratings. We don't make up review counts. We don't write "voted #1" claims we can't substantiate.

  4. We correct mistakes.

Prices change. Restaurants close. Buses get rerouted. When we get something wrong, we fix it, usually within a week, and note the correction at the bottom of the page.

  5. Commercial doesn't set editorial.

Affiliate links fund the site; they don't buy coverage. When something isn't worth recommending, we don't recommend it.
