Flying in

Three airports,
one destination.

Scoot flies direct to Melaka International Airport (MKZ) from Singapore five times a week. For wider connections, KLIA is 130 km north and Singapore’s Changi is 250 km south. Here’s how each option stacks up and how to get from runway to hotel.

Melaka International Airport (MKZ)

MKZ sits just 10 km from the heritage core - a 20-minute Grab ride (around RM 25). It is small by Malaysian standards, but that is a feature: no long walks, no queues at immigration that stretch for an hour, and your bag typically arrives on the belt within 15 minutes.

Scoot operates five weekly flights on the Singapore (SIN) to Melaka (MKZ) route, with the flight taking approximately 55 minutes. For visitors coming from Singapore, this is by far the most convenient option - you skip the Causeway entirely and land close to the city.

Book early for MKZ

Scoot’s MKZ-SIN flights are popular, especially on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Seats sell out weeks ahead of peak weekends. Check availability early and book direct on Scoot’s website or Klook.

Getting from MKZ into town: Grab is the easiest option (RM 20-30, booked from the arrivals hall). There is no fixed-rate bus service from MKZ; a Grab or taxi is the standard ground transfer.

Flying via KLIA or KLIA2

Most flights into the Klang Valley land at one of two adjacent terminals, both in Sepang, approximately 130 km north of Melaka.

KLIA (Terminal 1) handles Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and most full-service carriers. If you are flying in from Europe, Japan, or Australia, you will likely land here.

KLIA2 is AirAsia’s home terminal and handles most budget carriers. It is connected to KLIA by KLIA Transit, but they are separate buildings - the inter-terminal train fare is RM 2 for adults, RM 1 for children aged 6-15, and free for children below 6. Know which terminal you are in before you head for ground transport.

From KLIA to Melaka:

  1. Option A: Express bus

The most popular choice. Multiple operators run direct coaches from the KLIA Ground Transport Hub (follow signs from arrivals) to Melaka Sentral. Journey time is approximately 2 hours. Book via EasyBook, BusOnlineTicket, or Klook to guarantee a seat. Fares from RM 25.

  2. Option B: Grab

Convenient if you have luggage or are travelling as a group. Expect RM 120-180 from KLIA depending on time of day and surge pricing. The pickup zone at KLIA can be busy; follow signs for “e-Hailing”. See the Grab & AirAsia Ride guide for tips on using rideshare in Malaysia.

  3. Option C: Klook private transfer

A pre-booked private car from KLIA directly to your hotel in Melaka. Costs more (from RM 280 for a saloon), but the driver meets you at arrivals with a name board - no app needed, no language barrier. Book via Klook.

Flying via Singapore Changi

Changi is 250 km south of Melaka, and the most connected airport in Southeast Asia. If your best flight price lands in Singapore, the onward journey to Melaka is straightforward.

The standard route: clear customs and immigration at Changi, take the MRT or taxi into Singapore city or directly to the bus terminal, then board a direct coach to Melaka Sentral. Total door-to-door time from Changi arrival to Melaka hotel is typically 5-6 hours (including the Johor Bahru border crossing, which adds 30-90 minutes depending on the day).

Border crossing tip

If your flight lands at Changi on a Friday evening, do not expect to arrive in Melaka before midnight. The Tuas (Second Link) and Johor Causeway crossings can back up for 2+ hours on Friday nights. Consider staying overnight in Singapore and crossing on Saturday morning instead.

Direct coach options from Singapore to Melaka Sentral depart from Queen Street Bus Terminal and Golden Mile Complex. Book via EasyBook or BusOnlineTicket.
