Express bus
to Melaka.

The most popular way to arrive. Direct services from KL’s TBS every 30 minutes, daily coaches from Singapore, and connections from Penang, JB, and Seremban. Comfortable, affordable, and you don’t have to think about parking.

From Kuala Lumpur (TBS)

Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur is the main departure point for most visitors. It sits at the end of the KTM Komuter and MRT Kajang lines, making it easy to reach from anywhere in the Klang Valley.

Buses to Melaka Sentral depart roughly every 30 minutes from 07:00 to midnight. Journey time is 2 hours 30 minutes under normal conditions - add 30-60 minutes if you are leaving on a Friday afternoon.

Recommended operators: Mayang Sari and KKKL are the most consistent for reliability and seat comfort. Both run three-seat-per-row configurations with air conditioning and luggage storage underneath.

Buy online, always

Walk-up tickets at TBS are available, but weekend buses sell out. Mayang Sari Friday 19:00 departures are typically gone by Thursday noon. Book via EasyBook, BusOnlineTicket, or Klook at least 2-3 days ahead for any weekend trip.

From Singapore

Daily direct coaches run from Queen Street Bus Terminal and Golden Mile Complex in Singapore to Melaka Sentral. Journey time is 4-5 hours under normal conditions, but border crossings at Tuas (Second Link) or the Johor Causeway can add 60-90 minutes on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

Coaches from Singapore are comfortable and usually have onboard toilets, which matters for a 5-hour trip. Fares range from SGD 30-35 for a standard seat.

Weekend border tip

The Friday evening rush from Singapore to JB is one of Southeast Asia’s most predictable delays. The Tuas Second Link is generally faster than the Causeway. Departures before 14:00 on Friday or after 09:00 on Saturday morning avoid the worst of it.

Arriving at Melaka Sentral

All intercity buses arrive at Melaka Sentral, a large terminal about 5 km from the heritage core. It is not within walking distance of Jonker Street or Dutch Square. From here:

  1. Grab (recommended)

Open Grab in the terminal and request a GrabCar. RM 12-18 to Dutch Square, 15-20 minutes. Pickup zone is outside the terminal building, follow the taxi/ride-hailing signs.

  2. BAS.MY Bus MK01

The RM 1 flat-fare city bus runs from Melaka Sentral to Dutch Square. Slower and involves a longer wait (15-30 min) but costs almost nothing. Pay with Touch’n Go card only.

  3. Taxi (counter inside)

Fixed-fare taxi counters inside Sentral sell prepaid tickets. RM 20-25 to most heritage hotels. More expensive than Grab but useful if the app isn’t working.

How to book a seat

  1. Choose a platform

EasyBook has the widest operator selection for KL departures. BusOnlineTicket is good for Singapore routes. Klook works for both and occasionally has discounts.

  2. Enter route and date

KL TBS to Melaka Sentral (or Singapore to Melaka Sentral). Select your preferred departure time. Pick a seat if the platform allows it - aisle seats near the front have the smoothest ride.

  3. Pay and save your QR code

Screenshot or download the ticket. Most Malaysian bus gates accept the QR code on screen; you don’t need to print anything.

  4. Arrive 20 minutes early

TBS has a large bus hall and bays can be a 5-10 minute walk from the check-in gate. At Golden Mile in Singapore, buses depart from a specific lane - check your ticket for the bay number.
