The Melaka River
cruise & water taxi guide.

Three ways to explore the Melaka River - a 45-minute heritage cruise through 600 years of history, a hop-on hop-off service at 14 piers, or a water taxi to skip the traffic jams.

Three services, one river

All three services are operated by the official Melaka River Cruise. Choose based on how much time you have and what you want to do.

River Cruise is a 45-minute sightseeing loop - the only river journey in South East Asia that takes you through 600 years of Melaka’s history. You board, cruise about 9km through the heart of the UNESCO heritage site, and return to the same jetty. No stops in between.

Hop-on Hop-off Cruise gives you unlimited access to 14 piers along the river for one or three days. Use it like a bus - hop off at Kampung Morten, walk around, hop back on, continue to The Shore for lunch. One of the 14 stops is at a riverfront cafe or restaurant where you can sit and take in the river views.

Water Taxi is pure transport - point-to-point travel along Sungai Melaka to beat traffic jams. Fares vary by distance, from RM1.50 to RM15.70 for adults.

Where to board

The River Cruise and Hop-on Hop-off both depart from two main jetties:

Taman Rempah Jetty (Spice Garden Jetty) is the main hub, located on Jalan Tun Mutahir. It has a large, free car park, making it the most convenient option if you are driving.

Dataran Muara Sungai Jetty (Melaka River Square Jetty) is in the city center, right beside the Quayside Hotel. More convenient if you are already in the heritage area.

For the Hop-on Hop-off, once you have a valid pass you can board at any of the 14 stations.
