A longtime Melaka fixture serving Hainanese pork porridge, mee hoon kueh, and other Chinese comfort dishes. Relocated in January 2024 to Taman Kota Laksamana.
The Move
Bunga Raya Porridge has been a fixture in Melaka’s food scene for decades, with origins on Jalan Bunga Raya itself and a previous home at Plaza Mahkota. In January 2024, it relocated to Taman Kota Laksamana, settling into a more spacious location with ample roadside parking.
What to Order
The signature dish is Hainanese Pork Porridge, a creamy rice congee topped with silky braised pork and finished with a drizzle of soy oil. The restaurant also excels at mee hoon kueh, a local pan-fried variation of noodles that mimics the texture of hand-pulled sheets. Beyond these, the menu spans Jenak fish porridge, misua, and various noodle preparations with options for minced pork, lean meat, pork innards, or fried anchovies.
The kitchen also caters to keto and low-carb diners with meat and vegetable soups that sidestep rice entirely.
Practical Notes
Order at the counter, settle payment via cash or QR code (TouchnGo eWallet accepted), then find a seat. The restaurant opens daily from 11:30 am to 8 pm, though some days may start 30 minutes later. The new location’s ample parking makes it accessible both for locals and tourists exploring Melaka.
The Experience
A bowl of porridge at Bunga Raya is an inheritance. The recipes have been refined and passed down, blending Hainanese technique with Melaka’s palate. It is the kind of comfort food that draws regulars back year after year, through relocations and changes in the city around it.
