The Shore Sky Tower occupies the top two floors of a mixed-use shopping and residential tower, with the observation deck beginning at 163 metres. Opened in 2017 as part of The Shore development, it is Malaysia’s highest civilian observation point. On clear days, sightlines extend from the Malacca Strait to the inland hills.
Floors 42 and 43
Floor 42 houses the main observation area with interactive displays, binoculars, and touch screens labeling visible landmarks. Photographic backdrops set against digitised city skylines allow visitors to pose at different vantage points. Floor 43 introduces the glass-bottom ledge, a transparent section of flooring through which visitors can look straight down. The glass measures 6mm thick and is sealed behind railings; it induces vertigo for some and exhilaration for others.
What You See
From the southwest, the Port of Melaka and offshore islands frame the horizon. Due east, St. Paul’s Church and the Dutch Square monuments appear as modest structures far below. The Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum sits inland. The sprawl of Melaka’s newer precincts extends north and south. At night, the city lights illuminate monuments and urban geometry.
Visiting
Arrive near sunset for warm light and a layered skyline as dusk falls. The facility is wheelchair accessible and relatively uncrowded on weekday afternoons. Allow 30-45 minutes to explore both floors. The building houses shops and cafes on lower floors, convenient for before or after visits.
